Finally, got my hands on Kotobukiya’s MSG (Modeling Support Goods) Mechanics’ Base stand, from XL-Shop.
Without furthe… Wha?…
Guessed he’s more impatient than me…
Let’s see what do I got for myself…
The packaging is very simple as do the pieces it contains inside.
Contains one large base, two articulated arms and a few holder pieces. No, the one missing is due from my completed assembly (took less than 2 minutes). And yes, the whole construction (save for the screws) is made out of ABS goodness. ^^b
Unlike Bandai’s Action Base stands’ holder pieces, which comes in two fixed sizes, Kotobukiya had made those pieces to be extendable ones! Instead of cursing due to smallish holders, you extend them to fit. Nice touch.
Hence the less than two minutes assembly. 🙂
Note that the Revoltech Shin Getter 1 weighs around 200-ish grams, making him the heaviest of figures that I have.
As you can see, the stand can support this action pose with any problems. The default Revoltech stand that comes with him now has a “slightly” bent base… Due to the weight.
Now if I put a figma stand beside it, it looks somewhat the same.
But it’s not, really.
The first is, figma stands are good for light-weighted figures or mechas. Second, the material used is a more softer PVC, well, when you compare to ABS that is. =D
Some of you might be screaming “COPY~!” or something in terms of design, in actuality the Mechanic Base stand features improvements like multiple axises on each joints. Not only it can swivel up and down but also rotates at each point.
A nice large solid and weighty piece of ABS is good to have. As it provides stability (unlike most that I’ve used). Now, what ARE those protrusions at the sides for? Hmm…
Additional axises can only mean one thing: EXTREME ACTION POSES~! YEAH~! *clenches fist*
Note the picture above. Noticed that each elbow is rotatable? Yes… More elaborate fighting scenes for my future stories…
In order to support heavyweights, the Mechanics’ Base utilizes notches at each elbow approach used by Bandai’s Action Base. And like Bandai and figma stand’s elbow, one could use a Phillips head screw driver to either loosen or tighten it.
Coming back to the protrusions at the base. As you can see, this base is made to be join together with other Mechanics’ Base indefinitely.
Now imagine if you have a few of these… 🙂
Looks like Ryoma finally can do extreme fights in flight now.
My conclusion, a good action stand for gunpla or (action) figures to have just… don’t be hammed handed when posing them.
All I could say is… Don’t buy one.
But buy two or more. Fact is, I’ve bought two of them in one shot. =D
