Review- Revoltech Snake

20/05/2013 by bd77

From the jungles of Costa Rica, Naked Snake himself had arrived. Kaiyodo had done some nice improvements in the detailing, sculpt and materials department, which is evident with Naked Snake here. Sadly, not so for their included stand…

.

All armed up for action.

Unlike some of the (recent) human characters of the Revoltech line, Naked Snake here (I’ll just call him Snake in the rest of the review) only comes with… one face. With one movable eye.

Front 3/4 profile.

Yes, Snake’s standing pose is more for the dynamic feel instead of just standing upright.

Rear 3/4 profile.

Rear 3/4 profile.

Even the rear shows the amount of survival Snake is carrying for his mission. Sadly his drinking canteen and kit bag is non-removable, which is a good thing.

Details

Upper torso detail.

Visible here are his harness and taser pouch. Note that his belt and groin area are made from flexible PVC, which enables him to do some extreme bending/crotching poses.

Lower body detail.

Lower body detail.

His kneecaps are movable, which is a BIG plus, it makes his knee joints less noticeable while doing some of the action poses.

Rear detailing.

Rear detailing.

Here you can see his kit bag, drinking canteen and his handgun pouch. His bag facilitates a socket for the usage of action bases/stands.

Hoho great review man! Got to love that little side story at the end. His poses and joints seems so much more natural compared to previous revoltech releases.

Thanks. Hence why I said Kaiyodo had done some improvements. Now, if only they can make the faces having a matte finish…

hmm, wonder if the acrylic top flat coat would help with that.

Sometimes those joints make me crazy. His knees look so good from the front, but the joint sticks out so much in the back.

I’d say it’s a trade-off. I prefer this than PlayArts “ARGH MAH KNEES!” Kai type of joints.

I’ve been seeing a lot of snake activity lately.. haha! Nice review~ ๐Ÿ˜€ I like that he can roll!

Snake is just of of those figures that has a major pull to many.
Yes, his torso allows a wider range of crunching.

Poor Snake, shows up in a new place and gets subjected to that kind of treatment already!

    • on 23/05/2013 at 10:55 pm bd77

Well, that’s what he gets when he pulls a gun on Arcueid. LOL

When it comes to human faces at this size, I think Revoltech figures have one of the better-looking ones, especially compared to the horrible figma human faces.

    • on 23/05/2013 at 10:56 pm bd77

Well, that depends, really. Both has their own hits and misses.

This Snake is great! I was so sad when he sold out fairly quick and I wasn’t able to pre-order him.l Luckily enough I got one after release. I just love all the awesome poseability he has, all the cool accessories and the surprisingly dynamic expressions with his one eye.

    • on 23/05/2013 at 10:57 pm bd77

Ohoho. Lucky you. Yes, his accessories are awesome, and who says that a one eyed face can’t pull off a wide range of “expressions”, eh? ๐Ÿ™‚

Not a bad figure for a popular character… it will be more wonderful if they add a sword and a Rambo knife for close combat though to be fair, as it is, he had quite a few decent weapons already….

Now that you’ve mentioned about the knife… I do have HellDiver’s knife for that! YUSH!

I usually relegate Revoltechs for robots only and buy Play Arts Kai figures for video game characters but this one seems interesting enough. I hope a Raiden will come out in the near future.

    • on 01/06/2013 at 10:01 am bd77

With a bigger size of the figure, Yamaguchi (the sculpter) able to play more with the details. Unlike the older Revoltechs, which are smallish.
Ohohoho… wait, then they HAVE to make Solid Snake first for that. Then again, I don’t mind. =D
