Yes, we know that the default eye-piece for the Dreissen was a big disappointment (black piece of plastic with a red dot of a sticker for a mono-eye). So…
Yes, my Dreissen’s eye can now traverse left and right.
This modification is a simplistic one, I call it, The Poor Man’s Mod (meaning I haven’t used any custom order parts).
This how the mod works.
The green shows the degree of rotation for the eye-piece from it’s axle.
As you can see, I used the runner from a beam saber for the eye-piece.
I’ve drilled a 2mm hole just near the partition of the neck joint socket with a jewelers’ precision tool set (you know, the one’s that comes in a box of multiple size of screwdrivers).
By using a CD Marker pen, I’ve coloured it black (as like the interior) and paint the front dot red with a paint marker to make the eye visible.
Now can do a proper side-shooting beam cannon pose.
I kind of like this pose.
With that, concludes on how to mod the Dreissen’s eye.
great, and good move with making the inner in pitch-black. hardly sees the hollow part inside! 😀
Thanks and yes, making the insides black is a MUST.
Wow, that’s pretty simple.
Very simple yet it works.
nice mod there XD
Yes it is. =D
Well, that fixes the side-to-side bit. How about the up-and-down?
Up and down could be done, a bit, very very slightly.
Nice mod! It’s simple yet effective. I was thinking if that part was a joint (be it a Figma or Revoltech), then the eye would be able to move up, down besides left, right too. ^^
Thanks. =D
Umm figma AND revoltech joints are too big for the head…
Yeah, thought so too. But it’s the design of the joint I’m talking about. If you can create something like a Nendo/Figma joint, one side with hole and one side with male connector, join together and you can have a miniature joint. That should fix the up/down turn. ^^
Do note, the piece is only 2mm in diameter… Sure it can move up and down, but… *snaps*… yeah…
Creative 😀 I ROVE IT =3
Thanks dude. =D
I see. Simple yet it gave much better presentation for Dreissen!
Yes, now it is a monster that it should have been. =D
Ah very good mod!!! Makes the dressien so much better! Elegant solution to such a big flaw in this kit!!
Thanks. =D
Sometimes being in lack of resources makes one more… inventive. =D
Mighty brave of you to drill a hole in your new mecha.
If I don’t, it’ll be mighty boring and lame looking… Seriously, a 1999-like eye piece on a 2011 kit? Not in my book. =(
Interesting, sure adds more personality to the Dreissein.
Yes, looks more meaner and gives a sense of, purpose, to him. =D
Wow…. truly simple and it works!!! you are a genius BD77, this should be included in those GunPla bible for beginners… a very helpful tips… you deserve the credits for this…
Thanks. =D
I had to do it. If not, the kit will looked like something from the 1998 period of kits…
The Poor Man’s Mod might just become the new trend 😀
If it does, it’ll make many Dreissen owners more happy. =D
Nice! No monoeye should be left to be only able to look at dead center! XD
Thanks and yes, upon seeing the HGUC Dreissen’s review confirmed my worst fear… So… MOD EET~!
Nifty use of the excess parts on the runner for the mod there! I wonder what we can do to implement the up and down movement without having to do too much changes to it, but what you have done there is really brill I gotta say! Thanks for sharing!
Heh, thanks. =D
You CAN make the eye move up and down by slightly making the hole cone-like. In theory, that is…
No problem, the Dreissen is a good kit but marred by it’s eye piece…
