Having figures like figma, Fraulein, mameshiki, nendo, PVC and other types, sometimes they can get stained by our very hands during handling.
So, let’s see on how to clean them up. Do note however, if you feel uncertain, squeamish or doubtful in doing this, then don’t.
Regular cleaning method sometimes failed, like the one I’d experienced with cleaning dirt stains from Marisa during her repair job.
Her shirt is made from soft POM material, which in turn is a pretty good dirt magnet from our hands.
Having figures getting dirtied is a typical issue from doing figure stories.
Another item is a small bowl of water for rinsing the figure. Amazingly, never knew that Benzoyl Peroxide can be used for this purpose.
Yes, I know some might be having lewd or suggestive thoughts about this, but then again, it’s your mind that is screwed. If you having those, please, I implore you, go up a ten story building and leap out from the window. Thank you.
Yes, works a lot better than your standard soap or dish washing solution. After scrub the areas, do rinse it with water-soaked swab. If the stain is persistent, use a fresh swab with the cream and scrub again then rinse. May take several tries.
Back to cleaned state. (or close enough)
After scrubbing and rinsing, dry the figure with a soft cloth and done.
Now I need to wore gloves next time around. Or just wash and dry my hands only.
This particular information was from this forum. Note the part highlighted in red. The only bit that I haven’t done is scrub it on painted parts…
Took me two swabs in cleaning Mikuru’s shirt.
Only one of them is knowledgeable about this…
Very good advice, I’ll keep it in mind. And Mind you I only started to have lewd thought until you mentioned it! I can’t help it, grown up Mikuru is very sexy ;).
In a way Benzoyl Peroxide IS a chemical weapon since it mass kills germs. If I was the size of a germ like those Gundam I would be threatened too!
Also how did you manage to get Mikuru THAT dirty, never seen a Figma with so much grime.
Is it? Whoops. XD
SD-sized germs… Yow~! That’s HUGE~!
Eheh. When you lived in tropical climate area, then you’ll know. Also, from constant posing and re-posing from her review and stories.
That’s something worth remembering.
Have you tried it on non-white stuff yet? I never did find an effective way to deal with the paint staining on Revoltech Elina.
Yes, as Mikuru’s shirt is tan-white and skin-coloured areas. Paint staining can be resolved by the same method. =)
“some might be having lewd or suggestive thoughts about this, but then again, it’s your mind that is screwed. If you having those, please, I implore you, go up a ten story building and leap out from the window.”
Ok …you do realise you are the one who suggested that as lewd before anyone here, right? So…whose mind is screwed really? You’re seriously accusing your readers having a screwed mind while you plant that idea onto everyone… I guess I’ll see you again on top of a ten story building.
Also, Mikuru’s dirty clothes + “This is due to perspiration, dead skin and dirt that clings to the human skin” = ???
Chill, dude.
We call this preemptive strike. lol.
I should’ve included an exclusion clause, “Not applicable to David John, aka ecchi-master”. =P
Try live in the tropics with no air-conditioning while doing something delicate (and stress-inducing, stress as in NOT breaking the figure by accident), you’re bound to get sweaty hands. =P
And sweat is a GOOD conductive material for dirt from our hands. Science, you’ll re-discover things everyday.
You can claim some advertising fee from Oxy 10 for helping them to advertise lol~
Time to clean my Saber-Lily once i have the time 😀
Naah~ Just giving them some free product placement. XD
Yes indeed, she really needs some good loving clean-up. =D
You were rubbing her chest ;3
I wish I could find that though. My figures have dust on them, and some are stained with god-knows-what…
It is… *takes off sunglasses* Unavoidable.
voice from nowhere: YEEEEEEEEEEEEEAH~!
You could use any acne cream, actually. Not just Oxy.
there must be a reason Mikuru is chosen as your model here^^
i also use cotton swab, but i keep washing my hands during photo sessions, especially while handling the white ones like Rei and KOS-MOS
She’s the only figma I have that has a white shirt and in need of cleaning.
I also wash my hands but the though of breaking one during a pose can be, stressful… orz
Usually if I scrub hard enough it it works, but there is some resistant dirt. I have some of it laying around should give it a go.
I do wonder… if it can help with yellowing.
Go right ahead. =)
For yellowing, better use (diluted) hydrogen peroxide solution, and test on a non-figure before anything else…
well i’ll be Son of a Gun. Acne Pimple CLeans off faces and Figures O_o.hmm does using normal Soap or Shampoo counts?
Well apparently… yes. Surprisingly…
Yes, soap and shampoo does count. lol.
*climbs up stairs to 10th floor*
*salutes*
Brave man… Don’t forget to say “HI” to Orin. XD
😮 I do hear Oxy10 as a popular choice among vinyl doll enthusiasts (including those of Dollfies) for harder-to-clean stains such as ink stains, but it’s not often I hear it for figures – maybe it’s usually just dust and occaisional grease that I normally hear or encounter. Those I hear who clean their figures usually use soap or cleaning liquids to do the job (and apparently it works well enough) in addition to warm water.
But it looks like that it works just as well on figures. Your Mikuru sure looks a bit roughed up there with the dirt stain lol. At least Oxy10 is quite easily acquired so it’s a good backup choice if other options fail to clean the stains!
I did using soap/cleaning liquids before, but the stains are too stubborn. Especially for Marisa’s large ribbon.
Yes, it does works as long their the same (some-what) materials. =D
yup… my mind is screwed. but i leaped out of a 1 story building ten times, and i think im all better now lol
great tip though! its funny because i have used acne cream to rid color stains on my dollfie but never thought of using it on my figures.
Oh lol~!
As the materials are the same/similar, the cream can be used. =)
Thanks for the advice, I’m usually afraid to touch any of my white colored toys due to this dirt problem…
Oh, I wonder if the same technique could be used to clean vinyl toys too.
No problem. =)
Not too sure about clear parts, though… =/
